Doan Truong: Career and fortune of 2,000 taels of gold
Once one of the 'Four Heavenly Kings' of V-pop in the 90s, singer Doan Truong owned a valuable property, but chose to leave showbiz to pursue a private life and passion for travel at the age of U50.
Valuable property and golden past
Singer Doan Truong, one of the most prominent voices in Vietnamese music in the 1990s, currently lives in a 5-storey house in a prime location in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City. At the time of completion, this property was estimated to be worth 2,000 taels of gold. The house is equipped with an elevator and both a dry and wet sauna.

This success came from the peak of his career. Doan Truong was once a sought-after name, with a salary for each show that could reach more than 2 taels of gold. He shared that during Tet 2002, he performed 12 shows in one day and earned about 4 taels of gold. He added that thanks to his hard work during Tet that year, he had accumulated more than 8 taels of gold.
Decided to leave showbiz at the peak
When his career was on the rise, Doan Truong made a surprising decision to withdraw from the entertainment industry to work for a foreign corporation. He considered himself a "strange case" in the industry, only participating in the arts when he had passion and was ready to stop to pursue other directions.

"I am passionate about art but not dependent on the profession. I predicted that my musical career would last about 10 years, and that was completely correct. From 1998 to 2008, I devoted myself to music, then withdrew to focus on working at corporations," he confided.
Life at 50 and passion for exploring the world
Currently, singer Doan Truong chooses a single, private life and spends most of his time on his greatest passion: traveling. He has set foot in nearly 70 countries and about 250 provinces and cities across the continents. On each trip, he brings along the Ao Dai and the Vietnamese national flag to take photos at famous landmarks, with the desire to spread the image of the country.

Most recently, the singer had an 11-day journey along the "Silk Road" through three West Asian countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia. He conquered the Caucasus peak, which is over 5,000 meters high, in -5°C weather conditions. He often shares his experiences and photos from his trips on social networks, inspiring many people with a passion for discovery and national pride.
