Sputnik quoted the press secretary of the Russian President, Mr. Dmitry Peskov, saying that the Russian government received about 60 calls informing about the plan to plant bombs in St. Petersburg when President Putin was on a working trip to this city.

“There were about 60 calls reporting that 50 explosive devices had been placed in various locations, including on the routes where the presidential motorcade was passing and in areas where the president was scheduled to work in St. Petersburg,” Peskov said.

Yesterday, November 17, President Putin arrived in St. Petersburg to attend a cultural forum. Mr. Peskov said the president's security forces had dealt with the threats and these activities did not affect President Putin's schedule.

“These calls are made from abroad. These are people spreading fake news on the phone or phone terrorists. Of course, they will be found sooner or later,” Mr. Peskov added.

In recent months, Russia has carried out a series of large-scale evacuations after a series of anonymous calls threatening attacks. All of these calls were later proven to be fake. Oleg Baranov, head of the Moscow office of the Russian Interior Ministry, said most of the calls came from Japan, Turkey, Ukraine and the United States.
