Businesses and workers cannot find common ground.
(Baonghean) -In the first days of the Year of the Rooster, the job market has been very prosperous with thousands of attractive job positions. However, at the recent job fair in Vinh City, businesses and workers have not yet found a common voice...
The first job fair of Dinh Dau Spring organized by Nghe An Employment Service Center on February 10, close to the full moon of January, still attracted many workers looking for job opportunities. Despite the unfavorable weather, Nguyen Huu Tuyen and Ngo Quoc Sy, who used to work in Binh Duong province, still traveled more than 50 kilometers from Thanh Lien commune, Thanh Chuong district to Vinh to find opportunities.
However, they sat and watched continuously from 7am to nearly 9am and although the electronic board continuously updated information about jobs, they still did not have a single successful interview.

After spending almost a morning, Mr. Sy still could not find a suitable job. “I am really hesitant about staying in my hometown because the salary here is too low, less than half of what I paid at my old unit. Moreover, the companies are far away, making it inconvenient for me to travel. If we go back to my hometown and continue to rent a room, we will definitely not be able to make ends meet,” Mr. Sy shared.
Every month, Nghe An job exchange organizes 2 online job trading sessions on the 10th and 25th. Of which, the first trading session after Tet is usually the most exciting because after January is the time when businesses' demand for labor increases. In addition, the labor market has many fluctuations because many workers after Tet holiday tend to want to change jobs, especially workers working far away returning home for Tet.
In the recent Spring Dinh Dau trading session, there were 43 units inside and outside the province participating with about 3,998 recruitment targets. Of these, 5 companies came to recruit directly. The rest, the Employment Service Center will act as a bridge. In addition to coming for direct interviews, workers can also register through the direct trading floor, or be introduced to companies to contact for jobs.
However, through monitoring, although the demand for jobs is quite high, in reality the number of successful transactions accounts for less than 20%. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh - Director of Nam Chau Plastic Joint Stock Company, who went directly to the floor to recruit workers, said: "We really need workers, so we want to interview them to know what benefits they want."
According to him, when the employer has grasped the mindset of the employee, after recruitment, everything will be more favorable for both sides. Before coming to the trading floor, Mr. Khanh was very confident that he would find the right human resources. But in reality, the results were not as expected, because the company needed chemical engineers specializing in plastic additives, but although many candidates graduated from university, none were trained in this major. For general labor, he needed skilled people who were trained because "the machines in the company are mainly automated".

However, the majority of the workers interviewed were unskilled workers. As for Mr. Nguyen Huy Thanh, Head of Planning and Business Department of Chau Tien Company Limited (Nam Cam Industrial Park), recruiting unskilled workers also encountered many difficulties because: Most workers from the South required a salary of 7-8 million VND/month, similar to that of Southern enterprises. Meanwhile, the average salary in Nghe An was only 3-4 million VND/month.
This is also the common situation in the job exchange floor in Nghe An for many years, leading to a situation where the demand for labor recruitment is high, the labor market is abundant, but the effectiveness of the job exchange floor is not as effective as expected.
Sharing about these shortcomings, Mr. Duong Xuan Phuc - Head of Market Information Department - Provincial Employment Service Center said: "Nghe An enterprises are mainly small and medium enterprises, so the salary paid to workers is not high, not attractive to workers, especially skilled and experienced workers.
As for skilled workers, the current recruitment demand is still quite low, accounting for only about 10-15%. Some large orders want to recruit workers but mainly in industrial zones in the North, so workers are not really interested. The biggest wish of workers is to work locally, have a stable income and receive full benefits.
Another fact that leads to the situation where supply and demand do not meet is that many workers still do not have an industrial style, are not hard-working and patient, still have the mindset of choosing simple, easy jobs, do not like to work shifts, and like to "jump" jobs. In addition, workers also demand a salary higher than their job position, skills and the average of the province.

This also leads to difficulties for employers when they do not fully understand the skills and qualifications of workers. Moreover, when businesses come to the job exchange, they often want to recruit skilled workers, but most of the workers coming to the job exchange are unskilled workers or bachelors who have just graduated from universities and colleges, without much experience.
In order to expand the labor market, from the beginning of 2017 until now, Nghe An Employment Service Center has opened 3 mobile job fairs in Tuong Duong and Con Cuong districts. However, the number of workers registered for jobs is only less than 80 people, although there are many attractive positions and businesses have come to recruit directly.
To facilitate job seekers, Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Deputy Director of the Provincial Employment Service Center said: “In 2017, the center will innovate its operating methods and organize many mobile job fairs. In addition, it will provide advice to workers before job interviews to orient their employment, especially new graduates. Strengthen information and propaganda work to bring job information to many workers and select quality and reputable orders to increase the effectiveness of job fairs.”
