The US billionaire stopped to answer a few questions from reporters today as his helicopter landed at the Turberry golf and resort club in Scotland.

Referring to the referendum on Britain leaving the EU, he replied: "They took back control of their country. That's a great thing," Reuters reported.

“People are angry, all over the world, they are angry,” he added. “They are angry about borders, they are angry about people coming into the country and taking over. No one even knows who they are. They are angry about a lot of things.”

Asked whether he was referring to the US or the UK, the Republican candidate replied: "There are many other places. This will not be the last."

Before the vote in the UK, Mr. Trump said he would lean towards leaving the EU.

“I said it was going to happen and I thought it was great,” he said.

Mr Trump and British Prime Minister David Cameron have traded barbs. Mr Cameron has called the US billionaire's anti-immigration policies wrong and divisive. He supports Britain remaining in the EU and has announced he will resign in October after today's vote.

A few months ago, more than half a million Britons signed a petition to ban Mr Trump from entering the UK, where he has significant economic interests, after he called for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the US.

British Prime Minister Cameron has announced his resignation after the historic referendum result ended yesterday, with the people voting to leave the European Union. Cameron, who is pro-EU and leaning towards remaining in the union, said he fought with all his heart and mind but the people chose a different direction.
