At the meeting on May 26, the Standing Committee of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption (Steering Committee) agreed to strive to complete the investigation of 13 cases by the end of 2020; issue indictments to prosecute 17 cases; conduct first-instance trials of 21 cases, and appeal trials of 7 cases; complete the verification and handling of 18 cases according to the Steering Committee's plan, focusing on investigating and strictly handling 5 major cases.

The meeting of the Standing Committee of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption (Steering Committee) took place under the chairmanship of General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, Head of the Steering Committee, to discuss and give opinions on a number of cases and incidents under the Steering Committee's monitoring and direction since the 17th Session up to now and a number of other important contents.
At the meeting, the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee agreed on the following contents:
Since the 17th Session, despite the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, with the close and timely leadership and direction of the Steering Committee and the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee, the work of preventing and combating corruption in general and the work of detecting and handling cases and cases under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee in particular have continued to be focused on and promoted, with positive changes. The Central Public Security Party Committee, the Central Military Commission Standing Committee, the Party Committee of the Supreme People's Procuracy, the Party Committee of the Supreme People's Court, and the Central Internal Affairs Committee have actively and urgently led and directed functional agencies to strengthen coordination to remove difficulties and obstacles, completed the verification of 1 case; completed the investigation of 8 cases/49 defendants, issued indictments to prosecute 4 cases/30 defendants, completed the first-instance trial of 6 cases/17 defendants, and tried 3 cases/34 defendants on appeal.
Civil enforcement agencies have recovered nearly 7,600 billion VND; Investigation agencies have temporarily detained, seized, frozen accounts, and prevented transactions of assets worth 773.37 billion VND, 2.23 million USD, 34 real estates, 5 cars and many other assets. In particular, a number of serious and complicated cases that have received special attention from the public have been promptly brought to trial: (1) First-instance trial of the case of "Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences; Violating regulations on land management; Fraudulent appropriation of property" occurring at Hai Thanh Company, Navy Service related to land at 7-9 Ton Duc Thang, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City; (2) First-instance trial of the case of "Receiving bribes" occurring at Lung Lo Southern Branch, Lung Lo Company; (3) Appeal trial of the case of “Violation of management and use of public investment capital causing serious consequences; Bribery; Receiving bribes” occurring at Mobifone Telecommunications Corporation, the Ministry of Information and Communications and related units; (4) Appeal trial of the case of “Intentionally violating State regulations on economic management causing serious consequences” occurring at Vietnam Social Security; (5) Appeal trial of the case of “Violation of regulations on land management; Violation of regulations on management and use of State assets causing loss and waste” occurring in Da Nang.
The Government Party Committee has led the Government Standing Committee to direct ministries, branches and localities (Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Transport, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee...) to focus on removing difficulties and obstacles in asset appraisal and valuation, providing documents for investigation and handling of cases and incidents; the Government Inspectorate issued the conclusion of the inspection of the Ha Bac Fertilizer Plant Project. The Central Inspection Committee has disciplined and recommended competent authorities to discipline 1 Politburo member, 1 former Party Central Committee member; 2 former Deputy Ministers who committed violations related to cases and incidents under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee. The above achievements continue to affirm the determination of the Party and State to fight against corruption, which has been highly appreciated and supported by the people.

Regarding tasks in the coming time, the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee requested Party committees and organizations at all levels, along with paying attention to leading and directing the work of preventing and fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, developing the socio-economy and successfully organizing Party congresses at all levels, to continue leading and directing the promotion of anti-corruption work; completing on schedule the investigation, prosecution, and trial of cases, and verifying and handling corruption and economic cases.
Strive to complete the investigation of 13 cases by the end of 2020; issue indictments to prosecute 17 cases; conduct first-instance trials of 21 cases, appeal trials of 7 cases; complete verification and handling of 18 cases according to the Steering Committee's plan. In particular, focus on investigating and strictly and promptly handling violations of related organizations and individuals in the following cases: (1) The case of "Smuggling; Violating accounting regulations causing serious consequences; Money laundering; Violating bidding regulations causing serious consequences" occurring at Nhat Cuong Company and a number of related units; (2) The case of "Violating construction regulations causing serious consequences" occurring at Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC), Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway Management Board and related units; (3) The case of “Violating regulations on management and use of State assets causing loss and waste; Embezzlement of assets” occurred at Saigon Agricultural Corporation (Sagri); (4) The case of “Violating regulations on land management” occurred at Saigon Beer, Alcohol and Beverage Corporation (Sabeco), District 1, Ho Chi Minh City; (5) The case of “Violating regulations on investment in construction works causing serious consequences; Violating regulations on management and use of State assets causing loss and waste” occurred at the Project of renovating and expanding production phase 2 - Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Company.
Also at the meeting, the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee gave opinions on: Project to amend and supplement Working Regulation No. 07-QC/BCĐTW, dated April 9, 2013 of the Steering Committee; Report on the results of the inspection of the leadership, direction and organization of the implementation of receiving and handling denunciations, reports of crimes and recommendations for prosecution related to signs of crimes in economic management order, positions at a number of Party committees, Party organizations and functional agencies, according to Plan No. 222-KH/BCĐTW, dated September 26, 2019 of the Steering Committee; concretize and institutionalize the viewpoint on handling violations in serious and complicated corruption and economic cases that occurred in the past; agree to end monitoring and directing 3 cases, 1 incident under the monitoring and direction of the Steering Committee because it has been resolved in accordance with the provisions of law.
