Germany maintains large trade surplus with the US

The country's trade surplus was 100 million euros, less than last year, but Germany still has the largest trade surplus with the US. Previously, US President Donald Trump had said he wanted to maintain this.
Germany's trade surplus has been attacked by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which says it contributes to rising trade tensions and risks undermining global financial stability.
Germany's trade surplus with the world was 121.5 billion euros in the first half of this year, down slightly from last year.
