Using bleaching and dyeing chemicals for fresh bamboo shoots in Nghe An

(Baonghean.vn)- On April 5, the Environmental Crime Prevention Police Department, Nghe An Provincial Police inspected and discovered two fresh bamboo shoot production facilities in Block 2, Doi Cung Ward, Vinh City using bleach and dyes for bamboo shoots of unknown origin.

Ms. Pham Thi Trang's production facility has about 10 tons of pre-processed bamboo shoots, soaked in water mixed with yellow powder.

At the production facility owned by Ms. Pham Thi Trang (born 1987), there are about 10 tons of pre-processed bamboo shoots soaked in water mixed with yellow powder.

At the production facility of Mr. Le Duc Son (born 1970), there are 500kg of pre-processed bamboo shoots and 15 tons of newly imported bamboo shoots still stored in solid bags. Workers here are using a yellow powder mixed with water to soak the bamboo shoots.

Police took samples of two powders used to bleach and dye bamboo shoots.

The authorities also discovered an iron barrel containing a white powder weighing 27kg. According to the owner of the facility, the white powder (unknown name and substance) originated from China, was purchased in Thanh Hoa, and was used to bleach bamboo shoots. The yellow powder was then used to dye the bamboo shoots.

The number of bamboo shoots has been pre-processed at Le Duc Son's production facility.

The working group took samples of the two powders for analysis and sealed all the bamboo shoots for handling according to regulations. The fresh bamboo shoots were purchased by the facility owners and, after processing, were imported to wholesale markets for consumption throughout Nghe An and neighboring provinces.
