On June 7, Binh Duong Provincial Police detained Tran Thi Thanh (born 1999, from Thanh Hoa) to investigate and clarify the act of fraud and property appropriation.

According to the investigation, due to participating in online gambling and lacking money to spend, Tran Thi Thanh used software to hide her real IP address to create an account onsocial networkpretending to be a boy to make friends with many people to get acquainted in order to appropriate property.

In early September 2021, through the online dating app (Tinder), Thanh claimed to be "Hoang Duong" pretending to be a boy, proposed love and borrowed 115 million VND from Ms. V.

Thanh then contacted Mr. P. (Ms. V.'s brother) to borrow money to invest in cryptocurrency with the promise of high returns. Thanh repeatedly asked Mr. P. to transfer the virtual currency investment money to many of Thanh's accounts.

To gain Mr. P's trust, Thanh also transferred small amounts of money to Mr. P many times, saying that it was interest from cryptocurrency investment, and continued to ask Mr. P to invest larger amounts. In total, Mr. P transferred more than 4 billion VND to Thanh.

After verification, the Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Binh Duong Province Police invited Thanh to work. Thanh admitted that in addition to defrauding Ms. V. and Mr. P., Thanh also defrauded many other people with amounts ranging from 10 to 100 million VND.

After taking the victims' money, Thanh transferred the money to 8 different bank accounts. Thanh also transferred about 1.65 billion VND to the victims to create trust. The amount of money Thanh appropriated was about 3.85 billion VND.
