Ancient stone road through majestic forest 3 days 2 nights itinerary

Recently, Lao Cai Tourism Department in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism of Lai Chau and Ha Giang provinces conducted a field survey, assessed the potential, and aimed at developing a new tourism product "Heritage Road" - connecting from Sin Suoi Ho (Lai Chau) via the ancient stone road Pavi - Bat Xat - Bac Ha (Lao Cai) to Xin Man (Ha Giang).

This tourism product is designed with a schedule of 3 days 2 nights, or 5 days 4 nights. The highlight of the journey is the ancient stone road Pavi built by the French in the 20s of the last century, with a current length of about 20 km, connecting Sang Ma Pho village of Phong Tho district, Lai Chau to Nhiu Co San village, Sang Ma Sao commune of Bat Xat district of Lao Cai province.

The original Pavi ancient stone road had an average road width of 3m and a total length of about 80km. However, due to the impact of nature and humans, the Pavi ancient stone road has changed a lot.

The two localities are nearly 200 km apart if traveling along national and provincial highways, but if tourists follow the ancient stone road, the distance is only more than 20 km.

The route goes through complex terrain but has majestic and impressive nature. Visitors will see "giant" ancient trees such as chestnut, doi, sen, tau, and rich vegetation.

During the journey, visitors will reach the top of Gio Pass at an altitude of more than 2,000m above sea level - the border point between Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces.

The ancient stone road from here to Sang Ma Pho is almost intact, the paving stones are round, large and flat. At the end of the road is a village of the White Mong people in Sin Suoi Ho commune, hidden halfway up the mountain, more than 1,500m above sea level.

With a cool climate, wild and majestic natural beauty, and unique cultural identity, in 2020, Sin Suoi Ho was recognized by the Vietnam Tourism Association as one of the four most attractive community tourism destinations in Vietnam. On February 5, 2023, at the International Tourism Fair Forum (held in Yogyakarta City, Indonesia), Sin Suoi Ho won the ASEAN Community Tourism Award.

Currently, the village has about 40 households operating tourism services and building according to the 5 no criteria: No drugs, no alcohol, no gambling, no cigarettes, no littering.

The trekking route to conquer the ancient stone road of Pavi is considered suitable for those who are new to mountain climbing and love to explore nature. Tourists can combine experiencing the Ha Nhi culture in Y Ty, visiting Lung Po flagpole or exploring Hoang A Tuong mansion (Bac Ha), Sa Pa terraced fields, The Pa terraced fields, visiting Tien waterfall - one of the most famous landscapes in Xin Man district (Ha Giang)...
