Euro 2024 betting ring worth hundreds of billions busted
The police have just dismantled a gambling ring in the form of online football betting with a transaction value of more than 100 billion VND.
According to the police, this gambling ring was led by Nguyen Xuan Khanh (born in 1985) and Le Tan Quang (born in 1990, both residing in Hoa Minh ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang). The subjects used many methods and tricks to conceal their criminal activities and deal with the police.
Under the direction of the Director of Da Nang Police and the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (Ministry of Public Security), after collecting sufficient documents and evidence, on July 3, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention of Da Nang Police coordinated with Department 5 - Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (Ministry of Public Security) and Lien Chieu District Police to summon Khanh, Quang and 9 other subjects in this ring to fight against gambling and organizing gambling.
At the police station, Nguyen Xuan Khanh and Le Tan Quang confessed to organizing a gambling ring in the form of football betting, attracting many gamblers residing in Da Nang, Quang Nam and Thua Thien-Hue to participate.
Statistics from May 2024 to present show that the amount of money bet by the subjects is more than 100 billion VND. Notably, in just 2 weeks since the start of the Euro 2024 European Championship and Copa America 2024, the amount of money bet by the subjects has been more than 50 billion VND.
During the search, the police seized thousands of pages of documents and many other related exhibits. The case is currently being further investigated by the Lien Chieu District Police Department.
Previously, on June 20, 2024, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control of Da Nang Police coordinated with Hai Chau District Police and Department 5 - Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control (Ministry of Public Security) to dismantle an online football betting ring with a betting transaction scale of more than 1,000 billion VND.
