The zigzag path of fake college degrees
For only 5 to 7 million VND, customers can own many types of fake degrees from universities and colleges nationwide.
Hoang Mai District Police, Hanoi, reported that they have just dismantled a large-scale fake diploma making and selling ring led by Nguyen Manh Thang.
On May 11, a young man came to the headquarters to report that Cao Thi Ngoc Anh was making fake university and college degrees... for between 5 million and 7 million VND/degree. He deposited 3 million VND and was told to pick up the degree two days later, and pay the remaining 2 million VND for a good degree from the University of Economics - Technology - Industry.
On the appointed day (May 12), the customer came to a coffee shop on Kim Dong Street (Giap Bat Ward) for Ngoc Anh to give him the license, but was caught red-handed by the police.
During an administrative inspection of this woman, the task force seized many fake degrees, papers, and transcripts from universities and colleges... Ngoc Anh confessed that the "source of goods" was from Hoang Anh Quang.

Following Quang’s whereabouts, the police seized hundreds of fake documents and certificates at his residence. The young man admitted that another person had given them to buyers. Quang received 300,000 VND for each certificate sold.
During the investigation, on May 16, the police continued to arrest the fake diploma kingpin Nguyen Manh Thang. Checking Thang's apartment in the suburban district, the authorities discovered Nguyen Van Canh was making fake documents and diplomas.
Police seized many means of forging Thang and Canh's degrees, including computers, laptops, color printers, scanners, plastic laminators... screen printing frames, 50 metal embossed stamps, 25 watermarks, 4 signature box stamps... and hundreds of types of fake documents and degrees from all universities, colleges, and vocational schools nationwide...
Thang confessed that he hired Canh to make fake degrees and papers for 10 million VND/month. Thang rented the apartment as a factory. To facilitate the transaction of buying fake degrees, Thang made an ATM card under the fake name of Duc.
Thang confessed that in September 2016, he used an ID card bought from a pawn shop on Lang Street, then hired a motorbike taxi driver to take a portrait photo and paste it on... to make an ATM card.
Authorities are expanding the investigation.
