"As you know, the European Commission is currently preparing proposals regarding expert opinions for EU member states. We are working on this assessment day and night, and I promised you... that we will work tirelessly. Therefore, today's discussion will allow us to complete our assessment by the end of next week," von der Leyen said at a press conference in Kiev.
On February 28, Ukrainian President Zelensky signed the application for EU membership. When she visited Kiev in April, Von der Leyen presented Zelensky with a series of questions to begin negotiations on joining the European Union. The European Commission is currently evaluating Ukraine’s responses and, as previously announced, at the June 23-24 summit, the Commission will present recommendations to EU leaders on the possibility of granting Ukraine candidate status./.
