According to the Hollywood Reporter, the world's largest social network has reached an agreement with Fox Sports to livestream matches of the European Club Football Championship, also known as the Champions League, on Fox Sports' Facebook pages.
The matches will be broadcast in two languages: English and Spanish respectively on Fox Sports' two Facebook pages, Fox Sports https://www.facebook.com/foxsports/ and Fox Deportes https://www.facebook.com/foxsports/ and initially only serve Facebook account holders in the US.
According to the agreement, there will be two live-streamed matches each day in the group stage, followed by the round of 16 matches and four quarter-finals.
Some 2017-18 Champions League matches will be broadcast exclusively on Facebook, while others will be broadcast simultaneously on US television.
“Facebook is a huge social network and a great partner to help us grow the soccer space in the U.S. As people spend more time on mobile devices and social media, offering soccer on its platform is a natural extension,” said David Nathanson, chief business officer at Fox Sports.
According to Mr. David Nathanson, in the final match of this year's UEFA Champions League, there were 34 million people watching and participating in 98 million interactions on the social network Facebook.
