The Swiss "express train" has a great chance to become the first tennis player to reach the $110 million mark in prize money if he wins the Swiss Open.

Novak Djokovic became the first tennis player to reach $100 million in career prize money in June 2016. He leads the race so far, but is likely to be overtaken by Roger Federer.

According to Forbes, Djokovic's total prize money so far is $109,805,403, while Federer's is $109,387,410. If the Swiss player wins the ATP tournament in Basel this week, he will receive $464,589. That's enough to put Federer ahead of Djokovic in the prize money race.

Third on the prize money list is Rafael Nadal with $91,199,322. Andy Murray is fourth with $60,807,644.

Federer had a stellar year with two Grand Slam titles and three Masters 1000 titles. Meanwhile, Djokovic has been out of action since Wimbledon due to an elbow injury.

The 19-time Grand Slam winner, a seven-time Swiss Open champion, was expected to win his eighth title in Basel, after Rafael Nadal withdrew due to injury.

If Federer fails to win the title in Basel, he still has a chance to surpass Djokovic in prize money if he attends and wins the Paris Masters next week. This Masters 1000 tournament has a prize of 853,430 dollars for the champion.

Next month, the ATP World Tour Finals will take place with a $2 million prize for the unbeaten champion.
