Galaxy Note 7 Explodes While Charging
A user in China shared images of a Galaxy Note 7 that allegedly caught fire while charging.
Member Mr. Ni 666666 explained on Baidu that he plugged in his Galaxy Note 7 to charge at night and suddenly heard a strange sound, then the phone caught fire. Fortunately, no one was injured.
However, it seems that the error does not originate from Samsung's smartphone. From the photo, it seems that this user used a third-party USB-C port converter instead of the genuine tool.
Phone makers have long warned about the potential dangers of using substandard USB-C cables. Google engineer Benson Leung discovered that many companies making cheap accessories were not following quality standards. In one case, a USB-C charging cable damaged Leung’s expensive Pixel C. He then evaluated a bunch of USB-C cables for sale on Amazon and found that more than half of them were substandard.
Previously, many cases of iPhones exploding were recorded in China. The cause was due to users using "fake" cables, forcing Apple to remind customers to choose genuine chargers and charging cables with clear origins to ensure safety.
