Nearly 1,000 athletes attend Con Cuong District Sports Festival

(Baonghean.vn) -At the congress,Athletes compete in 8 events including: Athletics, volleyball, pole pushing, crossbow shooting, tug of war, badminton, table tennis and shuttlecock throwing.

On the morning of November 26, Con Cuong District People's Committee held the opening ceremony of the 8th Sports Congress.

Attending the opening ceremony were comrade Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture - Sports; Nguyen Dinh Hung - Secretary of Con Cuong District Party Committee; comrades of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, leaders of departments, offices and a large number of cadres and people of Con Cuong district.

Over the years, along with socio-economic development, Con Cuong district has always maintained good cultural, artistic and sports movements. Up to now, most communes, towns, agencies, units and schools in the area have sports, volleyball and health clubs with 70 thousand people participating in regular practice, reaching over 30% of the population.

To prepare for the District Sports Festival, starting from May 2017, the District People's Committee focused on directing 100% of communes, towns and sectors to successfully organize the grassroots sports festival.

The 8th Con Cuong District Sports Festival had the participation of athletes from 13/13 communes, towns and 4 units and sectors in the area. Athletes competed in 8 events including: Athletics, volleyball, stick pushing, crossbow shooting, tug of war, badminton, table tennis and shuttlecock throwing.

The Sports Festival is an opportunity for Con Cuong district to demonstrate its strength and continue to promote the movement of physical training and sports following the example of great Uncle Ho. In particular, in physical education at schools, building a core force of athletes, improving sports achievements, especially traditional sports of the nation...

In addition, this is also an opportunity for Con Cuong district to select the athletes with the highest achievements to participate in the 8th Provincial Sports Festival in 2018.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Kha Thi Tim - Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee highly appreciated the spirit of physical training and sports of the people in communes, towns, agencies and units. At the same time, she suggested that through this congress, the district's Sports Department will re-evaluate the mass sports movement. From there, consolidate and enhance facilities and equipment, gradually meeting the needs of physical training and sports competitions for officials and people in the area.

The congress will take place over 4 days, with the closing ceremony and awards ceremony scheduled for November 29.
