(Baonghean.vn) - With a total area of ​​nearly 1,100 hectares, Anh Son district is one of the localities with the largest sugarcane growing area in Nghe An province. Currently, the district's sugarcane fields are entering the harvest season of the 2016-2017 crop year, with an estimated net profit of 50 million VND/ha.

In the sugarcane fields of Hoi Son commune, farmers are busy harvesting sugarcane. In recent years, sugarcane has been a key crop with high economic efficiency, helping farmers to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty. Ms. Hoang Thi Hoi, village 1, Hoi Son commune, happily said that her family is currently harvesting 2.5 hectares of sugarcane. This year, although the weather is not very favorable, there was a lot of drought at the beginning of the season, but thanks to proper fertilization, the family's sugarcane yield reached nearly 70 tons/ha. With the purchase price signed with the company of 900,000 VND/ton, after deducting expenses, the income from sugarcane is also over 100 million VND.

Mr. Do Anh Tuan's family in village 2, Hoi Son commune, planted 1 hectare of raw sugarcane this year. Currently, the family is focusing on harvesting, with a yield of 3 - 3.5 tons/sao. This year's sugarcane crop with more than 1 hectare of sugarcane, his family harvested nearly 65 - 70 tons of sugarcane, after deducting investment costs, the profit is over 50 million VND.

In the 2016-2017 crop year, Anh Son district planted 1,079 hectares of raw sugarcane, of which 681 hectares were newly planted, replanted, and 398 hectares were left uncultivated. The estimated yield was 70 tons/ha, and the output was over 75,000 tons. Currently, the sugarcane price being purchased on the spot by Song Lam Sugarcane Joint Stock Company fluctuates from over 900 VND to 1,000 VND/kg. Localities are proactively coordinating to harvest sugarcane, and at the same time, implementing investment policies on seeds, fertilizers, and care techniques, and pest control for the new crop. In the 2017-2018 crop year, Anh Son district is striving to plant 1,500 hectares, with a yield of over 100 tons/ha.
