Severe cold has damaged more than 400 hectares out of 740 hectares of peanuts planted in Dien Chau district. Mr. Le The Hieu, head of the district's Agriculture Department, said:

"Recently, people have focused on replanting lost areas and replanting less damaged areas. However, due to the cold and rainy weather, some wet and difficult-to-plant areas will have to be converted to corn. For peanut areas that have stopped growing, we have instructed them to wait for the weather to warm up before fertilizing them for the first time. If they still cannot be saved, they will continue to plant corn."

Planted since the end of the 11th lunar month, when the cold weather hit, nearly 10 sao of peanuts of Mrs. Phan Thi Due's family, hamlet 12, Dien Thinh commune, Dien Chau were two weeks old and the leaves had turned green. However, after the cold, the peanut fields gradually withered and died. Mrs. Due said: Up to now, in addition to the 3 sao that had to be completely replanted, she had also replanted more than 5 sao with less loss, the rest had run out of money to buy seeds and was discouraged, so she stopped doing it.

Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Thinh Commune, Mr. Cao Ba Ai said: For areas that are 30-70% damaged, the commune guides farmers to replant and spray root stimulants to help the plants recover and grow; areas that are completely lost should be replanted. However, because of the continued cold and rainy weather, the spring peanut crop cannot be closed as planned and must be partly converted to growing corn, soybeans, and watermelon.

Nghi Loc is also one of the localities heavily affected by the severe cold accompanied by frost. According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Quang, head of the district's Agriculture Department, the entire district suffered damage to more than 400 hectares of peanuts out of 740 hectares that had been planted.

Thanks to the efforts of farmers in directing and trying, Nghi Loc has so far planted nearly 2,600 hectares of peanuts. The remaining nearly 400 hectares in Nghi Truong, Nghi Thach... due to wet and low land while it continues to rain, peanuts cannot be planted, forcing them to switch to corn.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the severe cold has damaged nearly 4,000 hectares of corn, peanuts, vegetables, mainly peanuts. After the cold, the agricultural sector and localities have issued specific instructions to overcome the damage and continue production to close the spring crop production area. However, some peanut growing areas cannot be planted due to high soil moisture and cold, and farmers do not have enough capacity to buy seeds to restore production, so the spring peanut area does not meet the set plan.
