Caused an accident that killed 3 people on the 2nd day of Tet, sentenced to 3 years in prison
(Baonghean.vn) - Hoa borrowed a 7-seat car from a Laotian friend to celebrate Tet and then drove at high speed. Hoa's car crashed into a motorbike, killing 3 victims.
On July 12, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a full criminal trial, the first instance trial of Nguyen Van Hoa (born 1982, residing in Muong Xen town, Ky Son district) prosecuted for violating regulations on driving road vehicles.
At around 4:00 p.m. on January 29 (the afternoon of the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year 2017), a motorbike carrying 3 people traveling on National Highway 7A, through Luu Kien commune (Tuong Duong), collided with a car with a Lao license plate driven by Hoa.

The strong collision caused all 3 people on the motorbike, including son-in-law Duong Van Pieng (born 1992 in Lo village) and his wife's parents including Mr. Lu Van Cong and Mrs. Lo Thi Choi (in Ang village, Xa Luong commune) to fall onto the road and die on the spot.
According to the indictment, Hoa borrowed a 7-seat car with a Lao license plate from a Lao friend to celebrate Tet. When Hoan drove the car on National Highway 7A from Hoa Binh town (Tuong Duong district) to Muong Xen town, to Luu Kien commune, at a speed of about 70 km/hour.
Due to not being able to control the speed, Hoa drove the car to the left side of the road and crashed into a motorbike that Mr. Duong Van Pieng was carrying his father and mother-in-law on the back, who were going out to celebrate Tet. The accident also crushed the motorbike worth about 6 million VND, and damaged the front of the car.
After the accident, Hoa went to Tuong Duong District Police to surrender and his family compensated the victim 370 million VND.
At the end of the trial, the first instance panel sentenced Hoa to 3 years in prison for violating regulations on road traffic control. Regarding civil matters, compensation had been paid and the victim's family did not request additional compensation, so the panel did not consider it.
