The recent surge in coffee prices comes amid concerns about the 2025 coffee crop in Brazil, the world’s largest coffee producer. In particular, experts say that this year’s volatile weather could negatively impact the country’s coffee output.
Brazil experienced its worst drought in 70 years in August and September, followed by heavy rains in October. This has raised concerns that the 2025 coffee crop may fall short of expectations, especially during the flowering stage, said Ole Hansen, head of commodity strategy at Saxo Bank.
Analysts say the poor weather in Brazil may prevent coffee prices from falling as quickly as expected. “History has shown that coffee prices will only fall as supplies improve and stocks are replenished. However, this is a long-term process that could take years rather than months,” said David Oxley, chief climate and commodities economist at Capital Economics.
