Coffee plays an important role in Vietnam's agriculture. In 2024, the country exported more than 1.34 million tons of coffee, reaching a turnover of nearly 5.7 billion USD, affirming its position in the global market.

In the first 6 months of 2025, Vietnam exported about 995,000 tons of coffee, reaching a turnover of nearly 5.5 billion USD. Compared to the same period in 2024, the volume increased by 5%, while the turnover increased sharply by 66.2%, showing a significant improvement in export value.

Coffee is mainly grown in the Central Highlands and the Northwestern provinces of Son La and Dien Bien. The coffee industry currently supports more than 650,000 farming households, mainly ethnic minorities in the mountainous regions, and about 2 million workers involved in production, processing and export.

Hailstorms on July 25 in Minas Gerais state, Brazil’s largest Arabica coffee growing region, caused trees to lose leaves, fruit and branches. The severe damage could wipe out 1 million bags of coffee a year for the next two years, affecting the next crop’s yield.

Markets fear the US could impose a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods if a trade deal is not reached by Friday. This could disrupt supplies from Brazil, the world’s largest arabica producer, and send coffee prices soaring.

Brazil’s coffee exports have fallen sharply, reaching just 2 million bags as of July 29, compared to more than 3 million bags in the same period last year. Global arabica inventories are at record lows, raising the risk of future supply shortages. The 2025-2026 crop year forecasts arabica production well below the USDA’s 40 million bags, putting significant pressure on the market.
