Global coffee prices are on a downward trend following a poor US jobs report, with the unemployment rate rising to 4.3%. Concerns about purchasing power in the US, the world's largest coffee importer, have put pressure on coffee prices.

In Vietnam, September and October are traditionally the low export months because they fall in the off-season. It is not until November onwards that supply becomes abundant again thanks to the new harvest.

While demand has not waned, consumers are switching to cheaper options like instant coffee or making their own coffee at home instead of going to a coffee shop. This trend is also affecting global trade.

World coffee prices today

On the London exchange, the online price of Robusta coffee futures for September 2025 delivery reached $4,562/ton, up 2.1% ($94/ton) compared to yesterday. The November 2025 futures contract increased 1.39% ($60/ton) to $4,361/ton.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the price of Arabica coffee for September 2025 delivery increased by 0.35% (1.35 US cents/pound) compared to yesterday, to 386.95 US cents/pound. The contract for December 2025 delivery increased by 1.63% (6.1 US cents/pound), to 379.7 US cents/pound.

According to the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV), last week the industrial materials group recorded strong fluctuations when both Robusta and Arabica coffee prices fell sharply. Robusta fell in 4/5 sessions, Arabica futures for December fell 3.22%.

Supply pressure continues to increase as Brazil has harvested nearly 95% of the area by the end of August. In the Central Highlands, the new crop output is forecast to be higher thanks to attractive prices and favorable weather.

Arabica coffee prices are also being impacted by the US, with an appeals court maintaining a 50% reciprocal tax on Brazilian coffee until October 14. If the tax is removed, the market could be volatile and cause hedge funds to adjust their positions.
