According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in August 2025 alone, Vietnam exported an estimated 95,000 tons of coffee, bringing in 429.1 million USD. In the first 8 months of the year, the figure was much more impressive with 1.2 million tons exported, earning 6.42 billion USD.

What is worth mentioning is the compound growth: not only did it increase by 8.7% in volume, the export value exploded with an increase of up to 59% compared to the same period in 2024. The key reason comes from the increase in coffee prices.

The average export price of coffee in the first 8 months of 2025 is estimated at 5,580 USD/ton, a record price, up 46.4% over the same period last year.

This increase in value shows that the position and quality of Vietnamese coffee is increasingly improving on the global coffee map, far surpassing the image of a country that only exports raw beans.

In a ruling, the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit rejected the legality of Donald Trump’s global imposition of reciprocal tariffs. In a 7-4 decision, the justices made clear that the power to impose tariffs is a core congressional power that cannot be usurped by the president through a declaration of a national emergency.

The ruling sets an important legal precedent, limiting the power of the executive branch in international trade matters. The current tariffs will remain in place until October 14, when the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to review the case.

Immediately after this development, President Trump warned that the United States may have to cancel a series of key trade agreements signed with major partners such as the European Union (EU), Japan and South Korea if it loses the final lawsuit regarding the legality of the tariffs.

The Trump administration has formally asked the Supreme Court to overturn the appeals court ruling, arguing that a defeat in the Supreme Court would cause enormous damage to the US economy and invalidate important trade agreements that give the US an advantage.

One notable point is the opportunity for a zero-tax rate for some items, typically coffee. This shows that the legal battle is not only about constitutional power but also opens up a completely new perspective on trade policy, with the potential to have a profound impact on global supply chains and commodity prices.
