The pitiful situation of a couple who both have serious illnesses

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (born in 1972) in hamlet 7, Hung My commune, Hung Nguyen district and Mr. Ho Xuan Dan (born in 1969) have been married for more than 13 years but still have no children. They also went from one hospital to another for examination, then traditional medicine, oriental medicine... because they did not have money for other modern methods.

When all hope was lost, the couple decided to adopt a newborn baby girl. Baby Ho Thi Trang became the joy and hope of the poor, infertile couple since 2008. Although their happiness was late, the child was not theirs, but the couple loved Trang like their own child.

However, God continued to test this small family. In 2011, her husband - Mr. Ho Xuan Dan felt tired, had chest pain, difficulty breathing, often felt dizzy and fainted. After going to the doctor, he was informed that he had heart failure and was prescribed a pacemaker surgery. "They said the pacemaker surgery would cost 80 million VND. After more than ten years of marriage, every penny we saved was spent on treatment to have a child, now I don't know where to get such a large sum of money," Mr. Dan said.

Having no money, Mr. Dan had to ask to go home to buy medicine for temporary treatment. His health declined rapidly, and farming work became difficult. Even simple tasks like herding cows, Mr. Dan could not undertake because he could have a heart attack and faint in the field. The poor man's body also had to bear the burden of drug-resistant tuberculosis, an enlarged spleen, cirrhosis, etc., making the family's already difficult life even more difficult.

Since her husband became seriously ill, all the burden of family care has fallen on Thuy's shoulders. The small woman does not hesitate to do any job, as long as she can earn money to buy medicine for her husband and provide her child with three meals a day. Seeing her child grow up day by day, all the fatigue and hardship she had to endure seemed to disappear.

However, the happiness of this poor mother is also difficult to become a reality. In 2014, Ms. Thuy was diagnosed with breast cancer. After 2 surgeries, the condition still did not improve, the small tumors continued to grow, Ms. Thuy had to take medicine to prevent the growth of the tumors.

In early 2018, her voice gradually became distorted and she had difficulty speaking. Ms. Thuy went to the Oncology Hospital for examination. The doctor diagnosed her with malignant laryngeal tumor and referred her to a central hospital. There, the doctor confirmed that she had laryngeal cancer and ordered her to be hospitalized for treatment. But with no money, the couple had to go home. Seeing her mother cry, Trang also cried and asked many times. Because they felt sorry for their child who was still too young, both husband and wife kept silent, but they could not hide it from their child...

Mr. Nguyen Gia Be - a neighbor of Mr. Dan and his wife said: "Everyone knows the situation of Mr. Dan and Ms. Thuy. Recently, the Women's Association of the neighborhood raised a sum of money to support Ms. Thuy to go to the hospital for treatment, but when they ran out of money, the couple went home together. Some neighbors helped with rice, some gave a few pounds of meat, a fish, a bunch of vegetables, they felt sorry for them but didn't know what else to do."
