Rice price today April 9: Raw rice price increases
The increase in rice prices in both domestic and export markets shows a recovery trend amid reduced supply and increased demand for fragrant rice.

Raw rice prices increase, trading market flourishes
According to the latest update from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province, the price of many raw rice products has increased. Specifically, raw rice 5451 increased by 150 VND/kg, currently fluctuating from 9,550 - 9,750 VND/kg. OM 380 rice also increased by 50 VND/kg, to 7,800 - 7,900 VND/kg. IR 504 rice is stable at 7,900 - 8,000 VND/kg.
The price of finished rice has also increased. OM 380 rice is currently fluctuating at VND8,800 - 9,000/kg, while IR 504 is at VND9,500 - 9,700/kg. Meanwhile, by-products such as broken rice 3-4 and bran remain stable, at VND6,600 - 6,700/kg and VND8,000 - 9,000/kg, respectively.
Records in An Giang, Lap Vo (Dong Thap) and Sa Dec market show that the volume of goods traded has begun to increase slightly. In particular, many large warehouses in Thot Not have returned to the market, actively purchasing fragrant and sticky raw rice varieties such as OM 18. In general, the domestic market is showing signs of improvement after the holiday.
Rice prices remain stable, trading slows due to reduced supply
While rice prices show signs of increasing, fresh rice prices in the Mekong Delta remain generally stable. IR 50404 rice (fresh) is currently traded at VND5,700 - 5,800/kg; OM 18 and Dai Thom 8 rice fluctuate at VND6,800 - 6,900/kg; OM 5451 rice is at VND5,900 - 6,000/kg. OM 380 rice (fresh) remains at VND5,500 - 5,700/kg, while Nang Hoa 9 is at VND6,550 - 6,750/kg.
In many localities such as Soc Trang, An Giang, Can Tho, Long An and Dong Thap, rice trading is slow because farmers continuously offer high prices while rice resources are increasingly scarce. Traders react cautiously, only buying sporadically, causing the rice market to not have a clear breakthrough even though demand still exists.
Retail rice prices are stable, not fluctuating
At retail markets in the West, prices of popular rice varieties remained stable. Nang Nhen rice remained at the top with a price of VND28,000/kg. Fragrant rice varieties such as Huong Lai, Jasmine, Nhat, Nang Hoa and Soc Thai remained at VND18,000-22,000/kg. Common white rice remained at VND17,000/kg, while regular rice fluctuated at VND15,000-16,000/kg.
Stability in the retail channel shows that consumers are not yet under pressure from price fluctuations, although the raw material market has shown signs of a slight increase.
Rice exports remain flat, waiting for more momentum
In the export market, Vietnamese rice prices remain stable. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), 5% broken rice is currently trading at $399 per ton, 25% broken rice at $370 per ton, and 100% broken rice at $316 per ton. Compared to a few days ago, these prices have not changed significantly.
However, the increase in raw rice prices amid reduced supply and increased demand for fragrant rice could be a positive signal for exports in the coming time. For export rice prices to make a stronger breakthrough, the market needs more support from new orders as well as policies to promote trade.
Conclude:
Vietnam’s rice market is moving positively again with a slight increase in raw material prices, improved domestic transactions and stable export demand. In the context of limited supply and the market recovering after the holidays, the upward trend in rice prices is likely to continue if there is more momentum from the international market.
