Gia Lai province is urgently implementing the construction of 39 resettlement areas and 6 reburial areas to serve the site clearance work for the North-South high-speed railway project.

The North-South high-speed railway project, passing through 20 provinces and cities with 23 passenger stations and 5 freight stations, has a section through Gia Lai province that is more than 115km long (from km886+300 to km1002).

The route starts from Hoai Nhon Bac ward (bordering Quang Ngai province) and ends at Quy Nhon Tay ward (bordering the old Phu Yen province). According to the pre-feasibility study report, the total land area used for the project in Gia Lai is about 758 hectares, of which land acquisition and clearance accounts for more than 323 hectares, affecting about 4,435 households.

Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has established a Steering Committee for Land Acquisition and Compensation to implement the project. Localities are assigned the task of propagating and informing people within the land acquisition and compensation area, and at the same time preventing illegal construction or taking advantage of compensation policies.

The Provincial Land Fund Development Center was assigned as the investor, preparing to build 39 resettlement areas and 6 reburial areas, along with preparing documents and procedures for 3 waste dumps and 10 mines serving the project.

Currently, 4 resettlement areas have completed marker planting, including: Hy Van village resettlement area (Hoai Nhon Bac ward), Tan Lap 4 village resettlement area (An Nhon Tay commune), Nhon Tho resettlement area (An Nhon Nam ward) and Tay Vinh resettlement area (Binh An commune).

In particular, the Tay Vinh resettlement area has completed compensation, site clearance and land acquisition. Each resettlement area has an area of 2-3 hectares, accommodating 70-100 households, and is expected to start construction before August 19, 2025. The remaining resettlement areas are being planned for implementation in the coming time.

The total cost of site clearance for resettlement areas is estimated at over VND1,000 billion, while the investment cost for construction of resettlement areas and reburial areas is about VND1,400 billion. The resettlement areas are located adjacent to the resettlement areas of the North-South Expressway project, ensuring synchronous infrastructure and conformity with urban planning.

Gia Lai province requested the Ministry of Construction to direct the Railway Project Management Board to soon place stakes for site clearance and hand over to accurately determine the number of affected households.

This is the basis for measuring cadastral maps, implementing site clearance and arranging resettlement sites on schedule. The province also proposed allocating funds from the central budget to build resettlement areas and reburial areas, and at the same time proposed the Government to issue a special mechanism for licensing the exploitation of minerals for construction materials, contributing to speeding up the construction progress.

Mr. Ngo Tung Son, Director of the Gia Lai Province Land Fund Development Center, said that the unit has sent specialized staff to directly survey, measure and count the volume of affected assets, working continuously even on weekends to ensure progress.

The Center has requested localities to urgently prepare documents and estimates of land acquisition and clearance costs and send them before July 15, 2025 for synthesis and submission to the Provincial People's Committee for appraisal, ensuring a synchronous land acquisition and clearance progress for the entire route.
