In general, the price of live pigs in many localities in all three regions continued to increase slightly on December 6. The price of live pigs nationwide currently fluctuates from 60,000 - 64,000 VND/kg.

On December 4, Mr. Luu Trung Nghia - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Gia Lai province, said that the Department has proposed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development consider adjusting a number of regulations related to livestock density and distance from livestock projects to residential areas.

According to Mr. Nghia, current regulations in the 2018 Law on Animal Husbandry, Decree 13/2020/ND-CP and guiding circulars all stipulate that the minimum distance between pig farms and residential areas is too close. Specifically, small and medium-sized pig farms must be at least 300m from residential areas, while large-scale pig farms are 400m.

However, the reality shows that some pig farming projects, although located many kilometers away from residential areas, still affect people's lives because of the stench from the pig farms. This has disrupted daily life and caused frustration in the community.

To solve this problem, Mr. Nghia said that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development needs to adjust the regulations, increasing the distance from pig farms to residential areas to at least 3,000 - 4,000m, instead of just 300m or 400m as at present. He affirmed that only when the distance is increased, people can live in peace and limit the negative impact of the stench.

Currently, according to Mr. Nghia, there are no specific regulations on technology appraisal for large-scale livestock projects. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Gia Lai has actively promoted the compliance of investors and enterprises with land and environmental laws, and applied advanced and modern livestock technology to minimize environmental impacts.
