The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development predicts that food and pork prices will not change much from now until the end of 2024. This is due to the large amount of food and pork available and unchanged consumption demand, along with stable raw material prices.
The Vietnam Animal Husbandry Association believes that the price of live pigs in 2024 will be 12% higher than in 2023. The average price of live pigs is about 62,000 VND/kg, and farmers can make a profit of 1.5 - 2 million VND per pig sold.
The increase in pig prices is not due to market demand but due to reduced supply.
Vice President of the Vietnam Animal Husbandry Association, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dat, said that the opportunity to develop the livestock industry is huge due to high domestic demand for meat.
To compete and develop sustainably, the livestock industry needs its own land and improved production processes. Investment from businesses and close links with livestock households are needed to modernize the industry.
