Export rice price

According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), Vietnam's rice export prices on June 12, 2025, decreased by 3-5 USD/ton, reflecting the adjustment in the international rice market amid increasing competition for supply. Specifically, Vietnam's 100% broken rice decreased by 3 USD, down to 318 USD/ton; 5% broken rice decreased more sharply, losing 5 USD, down to 388 USD/ton. In particular, 25% broken rice remained unchanged at 364 USD/ton.

In contrast to the downward trend in Vietnam, export prices of rice from India and Pakistan continued to increase slightly. India's 5% broken rice and 25% broken rice increased by 1-2 USD/ton, currently standing at 382 USD/ton and 367 USD/ton. In Pakistan, 25% broken rice increased by 2 USD to 362 USD/ton, while the price of 5% broken rice remained unchanged at 392 USD/ton.

The Thai market still maintains high prices. 5% broken rice is quoted at 401 USD/ton, 25% broken rice at 380 USD/ton, and 100% broken rice increased slightly by 1 USD to 352 USD/ton. Stable prices and higher than those of other countries in the region show that Thai rice is still competitive in the international market.

In a related development, the Philippines - a major rice importer in the region - is currently holding its highest inventory in many years. According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), as of May 1, 2025, the country had 2.37 million tons of rice in inventory, up 14.2% year-on-year.

Notably, the National Food Authority (NFA) inventory surged to 397,210 tons, nearly six times higher than last year. This result came from the Philippine government’s market regulation policies such as the implementation of maximum retail price (MSRP) and the “20 peso/kg rice” program to support low-income consumers.

However, commercial sector inventories fell sharply by 30% to just over 803,000 tons, indicating a shift of resources to the state and direct consumers, changing the distribution landscape in the rice supply chain in the Philippines.

High inventories in importing countries such as the Philippines could affect short-term demand, thereby putting pressure on export rice prices in supplying countries such as Vietnam. This is also one of the reasons why Vietnamese rice prices have just decreased slightly in today's session.
