According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tien Giang province, the locality is currently implementing a plan to plant approximately 20,000 hectares of rice for the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop in the freshwater areas of Go Cong district in the eastern part of the province. The goal is to apply science and technology to intensive farming to achieve a harvest yield of over 129,000 tons of commercial rice.

To achieve this goal, the Tien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has developed a rational, concentrated, and simultaneous planting schedule. The planting schedule is adjusted so that rice harvesting is completed before the dry season and saltwater intrusion occur. Simultaneously, solutions to improve the quality of export rice are recommended, including the use of fragrant and high-quality rice varieties such as VD 20, OM 6976, OM 7347, Nang Hoa 9, and OM 5451, which have good drought and salt tolerance.

In particular, the Tien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development encourages farmers to use rice varieties that have established links with traders or businesses to ensure favorable output and reasonable prices. In addition, training programs on the application of science and technology, especially the application of IPM methods and measures to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, have been organized for farmers to improve productivity and protect the environment.

Farmers are also advised to use row planters or 3-in-1 rice transplanters for sparse sowing, with a sowing density of 80 to 100 kg of seeds per hectare. Using certified rice seeds helps save seeds and reduce pests and diseases, while balanced fertilization improves rice quality. In addition, Tien Giang province is promoting mechanization in all stages of production, from land preparation and sowing to harvesting and post-harvest processing, helping to reduce losses during production.

The Tien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also directed localities in the Go Cong freshwater zone to guide farmers in applying straw management processes in line with circular agriculture. Utilizing and reusing straw helps reduce emissions and protect the environment.

Furthermore, to ensure irrigation water for the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop, Tien Giang Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited will strengthen inspection and repair of saltwater intrusion prevention sluice gates and dams, reinforce the dike system, and improve the water environment. Localities such as Go Cong Dong, Go Cong Tay, and Go Cong City will also carry out inland irrigation work and canal dredging to facilitate rice production for farmers.

To promote sustainable rice cultivation, Tien Giang province is implementing the project "Sustainable Development of One Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Specialization Linked to Green Growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030". This project will be implemented in key districts, towns, and cities such as Cai Be, Cai Lay, Tan Phuoc, Go Cong Dong, Go Cong Tay, Cai Lay town, and Go Cong city, with the goal of increasing farmers' income and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

According to Ms. Le Thi Thanh Minh, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Go Cong Tay District, the district plans to sow rice on over 7,600 hectares during the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop season and participate in the High-Quality Rice Development Project on 7,254 hectares. Go Cong Tay will invest approximately 95.8 billion VND to support transportation infrastructure, irrigation, and other facilities serving rice production.
