Record cold causes serious damage to many countries around the world
Not stopping in the US and China, severe cold has appeared in many countries around the world in the past two days.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the temperature in the capital Seoul on the afternoon of January 24 suddenly dropped to -18oC. Previously, on the afternoon of January 23, for the first time in the past 5 years, this agency was forced to issue a warning about unusually cold weather.
The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts morning temperatures in the coming days to drop below -15.oC. Over the past two days, hundreds of flights to and from the airport on the country's resort island of Jeju have been canceled. About 6,000 tourists have been stranded.
In many places on the island, snow fell as deep as 11cm and in the high mountains it was more than 1m. This is considered the heaviest snowfall in the past three decades.

Meanwhile, in Japan, snowstorms also hit many towns and cities in the central and western parts of the country, causing serious traffic disruptions.
According to local media, in the southwestern provinces of Nagasaki and Kagoshima, temperatures have dropped sharply compared to the average of 16 degrees Celsius.oC of last month.
Heavy snowfall in the western town of Kitahiroshima left streets covered in up to 74cm of ice, with the Japan Meteorological Agency forecasting no improvement in the coming days.
In Hong Kong (China), the temperature has dropped to its lowest level in nearly 60 years, when the temperature dropped to 3.3oC on January 24. People are advised to stay indoors and wear warm clothes when going out.

This cold air mass also spread to the South, causing temperatures in many provinces and cities in South and Southeast China to drop sharply, 6-8 degrees lower than the average for the same time of year.oC. Many areas in Anhui, Fujian, Zhejiang, and Guangdong provinces also recorded record low temperatures in history.
Meanwhile, in the US, the snowstorm continued to rage, paralyzing the northeastern states on January 23 and 24, with snowfall reaching more than 70cm, and even more than 90cm in many areas, becoming one of the five biggest snowstorms in US history.
According to preliminary statistics, as of noon on January 24, at least 19 people had died, the lives of more than 85 million people had been affected, and more than 4,400 flights had been canceled as snow covered airports in New York, Philadelphia, Washington, and Baltimore.
More than 200,000 people were without power, while hundreds of accidents occurred due to the snowstorm. Nearly 2,200 National Guard troops were mobilized to fight the snowstorm in 12 states on the East Coast.
