Durian price today June 12, 2025: Domestic durian recorded a slight decrease from 1,000 - 3,000 VND/kg

On the morning of June 12, 2025, the domestic durian market recorded a slight decrease of VND 1,000 - 3,000/kg at some warehouses, mainly concentrated in the medium and low quality segments. The current price is still quite high compared to the same period last year, especially for Thai durian and Musang King varieties.

However, according to a survey, durian prices in the Southeast region are slightly higher than in the Southwest and Central Highlands regions.

Durian price in Southeast

The purchase price of durian in the Southeast is currently the highest among the three surveyed regions. In particular, Thai durian and Ri6 type B in this region are being purchased at a higher price than in the Southwest and Central Highlands.

Ri6 type A: 44,000 - 46,000 VND/kg

Ri6 type B: 30,000 - 34,000 VND/kg

Ri6 type C: 25,000 - 28,000 VND/kg

Ri6 VIP: 55,000 – 60,000 VND/kg

Thai grade A: 80,000 - 85,000 VND/kg

Thai grade B: 65,000 - 70,000 VND/kg

Thai grade C: 45,000 - 48,000 VND/kg

Thai VIP: 100,000 VND/kg

Musang King A: 120,000 – 125,000 VND/kg

Musang King B: 90,000 – 95,000 VND/kg

Durian price in the Central Highlands

The Central Highlands market maintains stable prices but is slightly lower than the Southeast. The goods here are also assessed to have consistent quality, favorable for export purchasing.

Ri6 type A: 44,000 - 46,000 VND/kg

Ri6 type B: 30,000 - 32,000 VND/kg

Ri6 type C: 25,000 - 28,000 VND/kg

Thai grade A: 80,000 - 82,000 VND/kg

Thai grade B: 60,000 - 62,000 VND/kg

Thai grade C: 40,000 - 42,000 VND/kg

Despite a slight decrease today, durian prices are still quite high, especially for VIP and Musang King varieties. The difference between regions shows that purchasing activities are clearly stratified by quality, region and export demand. In the coming time, if the demand in the Chinese market is stable, durian prices are likely to remain positive.

Durian exports increase sharply, revealing many weaknesses that need urgent handling

In 2024, durian will continue to affirm its position as the “king of fruits” by bringing in more than 3.2 billion USD in export turnover, becoming a bright spot in Vietnam’s agricultural industry. However, behind this impressive growth rate are a series of structural problems warned at a recent seminar, showing that the durian industry is facing many internal challenges, requiring a systematic adjustment strategy if it wants to develop sustainably.

According to experts, the lack of synchronization in the supply chain is one of the industry's "Achilles' heels". From input materials, cultivation to post-inspection and traceability, there is no consistency and strict control. This model not only puts durian in a passive position when facing market fluctuations, but has also caused many industries such as passion fruit, dragon fruit or banana to struggle when exports grew too quickly but lacked a foundation for quality control.

Increasing pressure from major import markets such as China and the European Union (EU) is a severe test for the industry. The discovery of cadmium residues and O-yellow dye in exported durian has sounded the alarm. Cadmium residues are believed to originate from the abuse of phosphorus-containing fertilizers such as DAP for many years, combined with soil conditions in some growing areas. Meanwhile, the use of O-yellow – a banned industrial dye – to beautify fruit and accelerate the ripening of durian after harvest is a serious violation, not only causing food safety but also affecting the image of the exporting country.

In addition, the EU’s warning about pesticide residues on Vietnamese durians shows that the pressure on quality control will become increasingly intense. The Vietnam SPS Office has also recorded cadmium residues not only appearing in durians but also commonly in many other agricultural products, raising concerns about agricultural safety in general.

Production chasing output is also considered a cause of weakening supply chain management. Input materials are not closely monitored, and the use of pesticides or poor quality fertilizers is still common in many growing areas. Without strong corrective measures, not only the durian industry but also other agricultural industries are at risk of losing the market to competitors.
