According to VITIC, adverse weather with heavy rains and drought has reduced pepper output in Vietnam, while increasing production costs due to having to deal with pests and diseases.

Despite this, this year’s harvest is still forecast to increase slightly. However, supply continues to be difficult, as farmers tend to hold back their crops and only sell them when prices are high.

Brazil is the world’s second-largest producer and exporter of black pepper, accounting for 17-18% of global supply. However, Brazil’s pepper exports in the 2024 crop year are expected to decline sharply, marking a third consecutive year of decline, due to low output due to the impact of El Nino.

In Malaysia, cocoa and pepper continue their growth trend in 2024 thanks to higher global demand and government support for the growth of these commodities.

MPIC forecasts that global pepper demand will continue to increase in 2024 and 2025. This growth is due to the potential applications of pepper in various sectors, including pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, driving this positive trend.
