If at this time last year, pepper gardens in Vietnam were already in full harvest, this year, it was only in mid-February that nets were spread and prepared for harvest. The reason is that during the growth and fruit setting process, the weather was unfavorable. At the time of treatment for flowering, prolonged intense sunlight and drought caused the flowers to fall, resulting in a low fruit set rate. Pepper growers also had to handle and fertilize carefully, leading to a 1-month late harvest compared to the same period.

Mr. Nguyen Hanh, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Binh Gia Commune, Chau Duc District, said that the pepper growing area in the commune is decreasing, now only about 50 hectares compared to before. This year's pepper harvest is slower, the output is also reduced by half compared to previous years due to unfavorable weather.

“Pepper growers depend heavily on the weather. Therefore, in the coming time, the locality will continue to support farmers in training on care techniques, not massively expanding the area but focusing on quality and aiming to build an organic pepper growing area for sustainable development,” said Mr. Hanh.
