Recently, pepper prices in Dak Nong have been stable and high in key areas. Dak Nong aims to maintain 34,000 hectares of pepper by 2025, with an output of 73,000 tons/crop. By 2030, the area will decrease to 33,600 hectares but the output will still be over 73,000 tons/crop.

Dak Nong currently leads the Central Highlands in pepper growing area and ranks second in the country (after Dak Lak) in output. Pepper growing areas are mainly concentrated in Dak Song, Dak R'lap, and Dak Mil.

However, pepper production in Dak Nong is still fragmented, without close links between farmers. Currently, the province has 322.8 hectares of pepper certified by VietGAP, 601.7 hectares certified by organic, and more than 2,200 hectares meeting other international standards.

Dak Nong is aiming to develop pepper into a concentrated commodity production industry, improving product quality and linking preservation, processing and consumption along the value chain.

World pepper price today

Update on world pepper prices from the International Pepper Community (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, IPC listed the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 6,470 USD/ton, and the price of Muntok white pepper at 9,055 USD/ton.

The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper was at $6,000/ton. The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper remained stable at $8,400/ton; the price of this country's ASTA white pepper reached $10,500/ton.

Vietnamese black pepper prices today decreased slightly, trading at 6,200 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 6,500 USD/ton; white pepper prices at 9,400 USD/ton.

Pepper prices continue to be under pressure from increased cash flow into coffee trading and a stronger US dollar (up 1.6% last week). The US dollar index surpassed 106, reaching 107.06 before closing the week at 106.68. Weak demand also makes it difficult for pepper prices to increase sharply, although low supply is supporting prices to remain stable at around VND140,000/kg, with the possibility of a slight increase this week.

Vietnam is entering the harvest season with an expected output of about 170,000 tons, accounting for 35-40% of global supply. This will be an important factor affecting world pepper prices in the coming time.

In Indonesia, the harvest in southern Sumatra is continuing with good yields thanks to favorable weather conditions. In areas such as Bengkulu and South Sumatra, farmers have started to stockpile pepper after selling large quantities earlier.

Following Indonesia’s harvest, global pepper supply will not see a significant replenishment until February 2025, creating an opportunity for pepper prices to be supported by Vietnam’s upcoming harvest. This supply shortage could help the pepper market remain stable or increase slightly in the short term.
