At the end of last week, domestic pepper prices fluctuated between 137,000 and 140,000 VND/kg, down 1,000 to 2,000 VND/kg compared to last week. Specifically, in Gia Lai, pepper prices decreased by 2,000 VND/kg last week.

In other localities in the Southeast region such as Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai, pepper prices also decreased by VND1,000/kg compared to last week. In Dak Lak, pepper prices also decreased by VND1,000/kg. Meanwhile, Lam Dong was the only locality that kept prices stable.

Although pepper prices have recovered by nearly VND10,000/kg compared to June 2025, the current price is still not enough to ease the anxiety of those who have invested heavily in this agricultural product. The initial expectation of a strong price increase cycle has not come true, leaving many traders in a dilemma.

Pepper price today July 21 in the world market

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on July 19 (Hanoi time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at USD 7,216/ton. In addition, Muntok white pepper price also remained unchanged from yesterday at USD 10,058/ton.

Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged from yesterday at USD 5,800/ton.

Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $8,900/ton. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price remained stable from yesterday at $11,750/ton.

Prices of all types of Vietnamese pepper remained stable compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l reached 6,440 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,570 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at USD 9,150/ton.

In the world market, pepper prices in Brazil and Indonesia both fell sharply last week. The International Pepper Association (IPC) said that the price of Indonesian black pepper decreased by 2.39% (177 USD/ton) compared to last week. The price of Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 decreased by 425 USD/ton during the week. The price of Indonesian white pepper Muntok decreased by a total of 119 USD/ton during the week.

According to the Director of a large enterprise in the Central Highlands, the pepper market is currently strongly dominated by speculative factors. This makes business extremely risky, even likened to a gamble.

Unlike coffee, which has a clear trading floor and a transparent regulatory system, the pepper market lacks any monitoring mechanisms. There is no referee to regulate, leading to fierce competition and many people have suffered serious consequences, even bankruptcy.

At the beginning of this year, a large number of traders and investors expected pepper prices to break out to 180,000 to 200,000 VND/kg due to forecasts of scarce supply. With that belief, they rushed to collect goods right from the beginning of the harvest season, accepting to buy at a high price of about 150,000 VND/kg.

However, the market has since then seen many unpredictable fluctuations. In particular, information from the US about imposing reciprocal tariffs on a number of products has caused pepper prices to plummet. This has put many investors in a passive position and caused great losses, as prices not only did not increase as expected but also fell sharply in a short period of time.
