Earlier this week, experts from the project to transform pest management practices on coffee, tea, and pepper farms in Vietnam visited and evaluated the effectiveness of the implementation in Dak Nong. They learned about the reality at the Doan Ket Agricultural Service Cooperative and some households in Dak Song and Cu Jut districts.

Experts highly appreciated the efforts of farmers and cooperatives in Dak Nong in applying integrated pest management. These measures help minimize negative impacts on the environment, ensure safe agricultural production and limit greenhouse gas emissions.

The project, which will be implemented from 2022 to 2025 in Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc, Tuyen Quang and Phu Tho provinces, has built 6 models in Dak Nong with nearly 15 hectares of pepper applying integrated pest management. The main objective of the project is to reduce the use of agricultural chemicals, limit negative impacts on climate and protect biodiversity.

Update on world pepper prices from the International Pepper Community (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, IPC listed the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 6,470 USD/ton, and the price of Muntok white pepper at 9,055 USD/ton.

The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper was at $6,000/ton. The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper remained stable at $8,400/ton; the price of this country's ASTA white pepper reached $10,500/ton.

Vietnamese black pepper prices today decreased slightly, trading at 6,200 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 6,500 USD/ton; white pepper prices at 9,400 USD/ton.

Vietnam continues to lead the world in pepper production and export. However, pepper acreage and output are decreasing due to competition with other crops such as coffee and durian. Reduced supply while increasing demand has pushed pepper prices up.

According to VPSA, in the first 10 months of the year, the structure of Vietnam's pepper exports has changed. Whole black pepper exports still account for the highest proportion (72.9%), reaching 159,938 tons but down 9.3% compared to the same period last year. Similarly, whole white pepper exports decreased by 1.8%, reaching 16,639 tons (14.8%). Some other special pepper varieties also decreased by 6.4%.

While whole pepper exports decreased, ground pepper products increased sharply. Ground black pepper reached 32,464 tons, up 42.3%, and ground white pepper reached 8,853 tons, up 46.1%. Currently, the export rate of whole pepper accounts for 80.5%, while ground and processed pepper accounts for 19.5%.
