In Vietnam, pepper output in 2025 is expected to reach about 172,000 tons, down 2% compared to the previous year and 47% lower than the peak period of 2018 - 2019. The main reason is that the planting area has narrowed and there are no signs of expansion again. Due to the scarcity of domestic supply, the import volume in the first half of 2025 increased sharply by 57%, reaching 28,000 tons.
According to VPSA data, in August alone, Vietnam imported 3,052 tons of pepper with a turnover of 19.9 million USD, a slight decrease compared to the previous month in both quantity and value.
Meanwhile, Brazil is forecast to have a bumper crop with output reaching 89,000 tonnes, up 26% from 2024 thanks to improved yields and continued expansion of planted area.
In contrast, India, which has been hit by adverse weather conditions, is expected to see its output fall by 20% to 48,000 tonnes. Indonesia is also expected to see a decline, with production in 2025 expected to be around 37,000 tonnes due to shrinking cultivated areas.
