Domestic pepper prices are forecast to continue to increase in the coming time, as demand from major markets such as the US and EU remains high. Although output in key growing areas such as the Central Highlands remains stable, farmers’ hoarding mentality has limited pepper sales, contributing to keeping prices high.
Currently, many export enterprises are increasing purchases to complete orders to Europe and the US. Although this year's pepper output may be higher than last year, the fact that people are holding back the goods has caused the actual supply in the market to still be in short supply.
In recent years, the Vietnamese pepper industry has undergone many positive changes. Farmers are increasingly focusing on clean and organic production, while strengthening production links along the value chain. These changes not only improve product quality but also help Vietnamese pepper meet strict export standards.
However, pepper cultivation still faces many risks. In 2024, erratic weather caused severe drought, affecting productivity. Many pepper gardens flowered and bore fruit unevenly, leading to a decrease in total output.

In the international market, pepper consumption demand remains high, while supply from major producing countries such as Brazil and Indonesia is facing difficulties due to unfavorable weather conditions. This is forecast to create pressure causing global pepper prices to continue to stay high in the coming time.
According to forecasts from Nedspice, global pepper output in 2023 will only reach 520,000 tons, while consumption demand will reach 530,000 tons, causing inventories to shrink.
The shortage may continue this year if the weather continues to be unfavorable in major producing countries. In addition, if China resumes strong imports soon, pepper prices are likely to increase sharply in the second quarter of 2025.
