In September 2024, Vietnam's pepper export price reached a record high of 6,239 USD per ton. During this month, Vietnam exported 20,000 tons of pepper, earning a total of 125 million USD. Compared to the previous year, the export volume increased by 10.4% and the value increased by 84.9%.

The average export price of pepper in September was $6,239 per ton, up 67.5 percent from the same month last year and the highest in many years. According to the Import-Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, pepper prices are likely to remain high in the short term due to limited supply.

However, with Brazil and Indonesia starting their harvest season and global demand not increasing strongly, pepper prices are expected to increase only slightly in the near future.

World pepper price today

Update on world pepper prices from the International Pepper Community (IPC), at the end of the most recent trading session, IPC listed the price of Indonesian Lampung black pepper at 6,782 USD/ton (down 0.64%), and the price of Muntok white pepper at 9,068 USD/ton (down 1.60%).

The price of Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper was at USD 6,850/ton. The price of Malaysian ASTA black pepper remained stable at USD 8,900/ton; the price of this country's ASTA white pepper reached USD 11,400/ton.

Vietnamese black pepper prices today are stable at a high level, trading at 6,800 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 7,100 USD/ton; white pepper prices at 10,150 USD/ton.

Vietnam’s pepper harvest season in 2025 is expected to start in February and last until April, one to two months later than in previous years. Due to this delay, pepper supply may be more difficult.

Stocks from 2023 and imports in 2024 are estimated at around 40,000 to 45,000 tonnes, including unofficial imports. This means that the amount of pepper available for export by the end of the year will be less than in previous years, until the 2025 crop season begins in March 2025.

With just one quarter left to end the year, the pepper industry has reached its export target of $1 billion within nine months, thanks to a surge in prices, helping the industry achieve results earlier than expected.
