Today's domestic pepper price, January 7, is at 148,000 - 150,000 VND/kg. Gia Lai pepper price increased by 500 VND compared to yesterday. Total export turnover reached 1.32 billion USD, up 45.4%.

Domestic pepper prices today

The highest pepper purchase price in key pepper growing areas (Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Dak Nong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Phuoc) was recorded at 150,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, in Dak Nong province, pepper price is at 150,000 VND/kg. Stable compared to yesterday.

In Gia Lai, pepper price is 148,500 VND/kg. Increased 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

In Dak Lak, pepper price is 149,000 VND/kg. Stable compared to yesterday.

In Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai, pepper price today is at 148,000 VND/kg. Stable compared to yesterday.

In Ba Ria - Vung Tau, pepper price today is at 149,000 VND/kg. Stable compared to yesterday.

Thus, pepper prices today fluctuate in many key provinces, in the domestic market, currently the lowest price is 148,000 VND/kg.

By the end of 2024, Vietnam had exported a total of 250,600 tons of pepper of all kinds, of which black pepper reached 220,269 tons and white pepper reached 30,331 tons. The total export turnover reached 1.32 billion USD, including black pepper 1.117 billion USD and white pepper 200.6 million USD. Compared to 2023, the export volume decreased by 5.1%, but the turnover increased by 45.4%.

China, the US and the EU are major consumer markets, expected to increase imports in 2025. China alone imported 9,677 tons of pepper in the first 11 months of 2024, up 15.1% in volume and 42.1% in value over the previous year.

Last year, the average export price of black pepper reached 5,154 USD/ton, up 49.7% and white pepper reached 6,884 USD/ton, up 38.9% over last year.

In terms of export markets, the US is Vietnam's largest pepper export market in 2024, reaching 72,311 tons, up 33.2% compared to 2023 and accounting for 28.9% of the market share. This is also the highest export volume ever to this market, up 21% compared to the previous record of 59,778 tons achieved in 2021.

World pepper prices today

In the world market, based on quotes from export enterprises and export prices in various countries, the International Pepper Association (IPC) updated the prices of all types of pepper traded in the international market on January 7 (local time) as follows:

Indonesia's Lampung black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at USD 6,832/ton. Meanwhile, Muntok white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at USD 8,940/ton.

Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 price remained unchanged from yesterday at USD 6,325/ton.

Malaysia’s ASTA black pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at $8,500/ton. Meanwhile, the country’s ASTA white pepper price also remained unchanged from yesterday at $10,700/ton.

Prices of all types of Vietnamese pepper remained unchanged compared to yesterday. Of which, the price of Vietnamese black pepper 500 gr/l reached 6,400 USD/ton; 550 gr/l reached 6,700 USD/ton.

Similarly, Vietnam's white pepper price remained unchanged from yesterday at 9,600 USD/ton.

Global pepper output in 2024 will decrease by about 10,000 tons compared to the previous year, reaching 533,000 tons. In Vietnam alone, output in 2024 will decrease by 20,000 tons, to only 170,000 tons.

By 2025, Vietnam's pepper output is expected to recover and increase to 200,000 tons, while output in India is expected to decrease by 25-30% due to adverse weather.

With limited supply and high demand, pepper prices are forecast to continue to increase this week. The expected increase ranges from 500 - 1,500 VND/kg in some areas, especially in localities with active purchasing activities such as Dak Nong, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, and Dak Lak.

Currently, Dak Nong ranks first in the Central Highlands region and the whole country in terms of pepper growing area, and second in output in the country (after Dak Lak province).
