The great value of the August Revolution endures with every step forward of the homeland and country.

More than 10 days of taking power into the hands of the people

The nationwide uprising took place within 15 days (August 14-28, 1945). In Nghe An, the uprising to seize power took place and ended within more than 10 days.

On August 16, Thanh Thuy commune, Xuan Lieu commune (now Nam Thanh commune, Nam Dan district) was the first commune to gain power for the people. Quynh Luu was the first district in Nghe An to successfully gain district-level government on August 17.

After Quynh Luu, people in other districts and prefectures successively rose up to seize power and were successful: Hung Nguyen prefecture on August 19, Dien Chau prefecture on August 21, Nghia Dan district on August 22, Anh Son prefecture, Nam Dan district, Thanh Chuong district on August 23, Yen Thanh district on August 25, Nghi Loc district, Quy Chau prefecture, Tuong Duong prefecture... on August 26.

In Vinh - Ben Thuy, where the puppet government and Japanese army were concentrated, in the early morning of August 21, 1945, tens of thousands of people with the support of farmers in Hung Nguyen and Nghi Loc raised high the red flag with yellow star, loudly protested, and marched the city committee along the streets.

At exactly 12 noon on August 21, 1945, Governor Dang Van Huong handed over his seal and declared his surrender to the revolution. The uprising in Vinh - Ben Thuy ended quickly, without bloodshed, marking the decisive victory of the uprising to seize power in Nghe An province.

With the rural process starting (Quynh Luu, Hung Nguyen); urban and rural areas simultaneously taking place (Vinh - Ben Thuy, Dien Chau) and finally ending in the rural and mountainous areas (Quy Chau, Tuong Duong), the uprising to seize power in Nghe An was carried out while there was still a significant Japanese military force occupying the province, so finding a suitable uprising method that avoided bloodshed was a great success.

The countryside played an important role in promoting and supporting the urban areas in the early days of the uprising. When the urban uprising was victorious, destroying the enemy's brain in Nghe An, the balance of power was completely tilted towards the revolution, creating conditions for the rural and mountainous areas to successfully seize power.

In particular, according to researchers, the mountainous districts and prefectures of the province have left a unique feature compared to the whole country in the method of seizing power. Accordingly, the Viet Minh Nghe Tinh advocated seizing power by flexible methods, both persuading the mandarins in the puppet government apparatus, the local chiefs, and the village leaders, and using administrative measures to force them to hand over power to the revolution in the form of administrative reform.

Because before the uprising, the party and revolutionary bases had not yet been formed, while the old government was ruled by hereditary local chiefs and village chiefs; in addition, there were many Japanese military posts in Con Cuong, Khe Choang, Khe Kien, Cua Rao, and Muong Xen.

Steady step forward

The 79th anniversary of the successful August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2024) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2024) is a broad political and social activity in the entire Party, the entire army and the entire people in general; in the Party Committee, the army and the people of Nghe An in particular, to review and affirm the eternal value of national independence associated with socialism; to express respect and deep gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh - the one who gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

In particular, the anniversary of the August Revolution is the 55th anniversary of the entire Party, army and people implementing His Will; and for the Party Committee, government and people of Nghe An, it is also the 55th anniversary of our implementation of His sacred Will for the homeland in the Letter sent to the Provincial Party Executive Committee on July 21, 1969, just 42 days before Uncle Ho returned to the world of the virtuous.

In the Ho Chi Minh era, promoting the homeland's traditions, absorbing the lessons of the August Revolution; the extremely valuable thoughts and advice, the great trust, deep affection and loyalty of President Ho Chi Minh for his homeland, Nghe An has made worthy contributions to the cause of national liberation and struggle.

In the cause of national innovation, with the encouragement, motivation, support, and care of the Central Government and compatriots and comrades nationwide, the Party Committee and people of Nghe An have made efforts to overcome difficulties, strived to rise up with high determination, overcome difficulties, promote potentials and strengths, mobilize internal resources, take advantage of external resources, and create new resources for development.

After 10 years of implementing Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW dated July 30, 2013 of the Politburo on the direction and tasks for the development of Nghe An province until 2020, the province has achieved quite comprehensive and outstanding results. The scale of the economy currently ranks 10th in the country, contributing about 12% of the economic scale of the North Central and Central Coast regions and 1.85% of the whole country.

The economy maintains a good growth rate, reaching 7.14% in 2023; 6.76% in the first 6 months of 2024; annual budget revenue always meets and exceeds the plan. Investment attraction has achieved positive results, especially FDI ranked in the top 10 for two consecutive years, in 2023 alone reaching more than 1.6 billion USD, ranking 8th out of 63 provinces and cities with the highest in the country.

Vinh City is preparing to expand its administrative boundaries and urban space and increasingly affirm its role as the center of the North Central region in a number of fields such as: Healthcare, education and training, finance and banking.

The rural and mountainous areas have seen many improvements. The whole province currently has 319/411 communes meeting new rural standards, 10 district-level units have completed their tasks and met new rural standards. The lives of people in all regions are increasingly improved.

Currently, Nghe An is converging many extremely favorable factors to be able to rapidly progress and make breakthroughs in socio-economic development.

In terms of orientation, vision, goals and development directions of our province, the Central Government and the province have clearly outlined in Resolution No. 39-NQ/TW dated July 18, 2023 of the Politburo on building and developing Nghe An province to 2030, with a vision to 2045; Resolution No. 137/2024/QH15 dated June 26, 2024 of the National Assembly supplementing a pilot program of a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Nghe An province; Decision No. 1059/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister approving the Planning of Nghe An province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

The remaining problem is the steps and methods to make a breakthrough, effectively and quickly reach the goal: "quickly become one of the best provinces in the North".

The further time goes by, the more the vitality and values ​​of the August Revolution shine and become greater; the lessons of the revolution remain intact in their contemporary value.

That is the very successful and effective combination of "time, opportunity, and timing"; it is the spirit of solidarity, unity, and unity of all our people under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh.

Celebrating the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, the Party Committee, army and people of Nghe An are more deeply aware of the great value and significance of the great revolution that revived an entire nation, to take advantage of favorable opportunities, to be more determined and make greater efforts to develop the economy, culture and society in conjunction with improving the quality of life of the people.

Thereby contributing with the whole country to bring the Vietnamese people forward firmly, establishing new development milestones, so that by 2045, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, our country will become a developed, high-income country.
