Converted according to the USD exchange rate at Vietcombank (26,378 VND/USD), the world gold price is about 132.7 million VND/tael (excluding taxes and fees). Thus, the price of gold bars is 20.5 million VND/tael higher than the international gold price.
The market witnessed a sharp drop in gold prices as selling pressure increased across the board. Many short-term investors decided to “lock in profits” after the period of rapid gold price increase, leading to a large selling pressure that caused the precious metal to evaporate tens of USD/ounce in a short period of time.
According to analysis from experts, the main driving force for the decline in gold prices is technical profit-taking. When a large increase accumulates, the market is likely to experience sharp declines to rebalance.
At the same time as gold prices plunged, Washington made an important move. US President Donald Trump signed a bill ending the 43-day government shutdown. The reopening of the US government has stabilized market sentiment, thereby reducing the demand for gold as a safe haven asset.
However, the main factor causing the gold price to fall is still the internal market force, not the political factor. Investors temporarily stopped buying goods after the rapid increase and started to take profits.
