Hai was accused of covering his face and holding a knife on the morning of May 7, storming into Thanh Phong Garment Service Company Limited (located in Village 3, Vinh Thanh Commune), threatening and tying up Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong (32 years old, Director of the company) and robbing 6 million VND in cash and a phone worth nearly 20 million VND.

Hai forced Mr. Phong into his car and forced him to withdraw more than 110 million VND from 3 ATMs. Hai drove Mr. Phong along Highway 49 from Hue City to Vinh Thanh Commune with the intention of blackmailing Mr. Phong's mother. However, when they reached Phu Thuan Commune (Phu Vang District), Hai caused an accident and immediately abandoned the car with Mr. Phong tied up.

After nearly a month of investigation, authorities discovered Hai in Tan Thanh ward (Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak).
