Director of Yen Bai Department of Natural Resources: 'If I do anything wrong, I will resign'

On the afternoon of June 29, speaking to the press about the origin of the assets including a complex of villas, farms... on a 13,000 m2 land plot in Minh Tan ward (Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province), Mr.Pham Sy Quy (Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Yen Bai province) said that he is not the owner. On paper, everything belongs to his wife, Hoang Thi Hue.

According to Mr. Quy, his family mobilized money from many sources (relatives, friends...) to invest in the projects, including nearly 20 billion VND borrowed from the bank. "We have paid back a part, but it is not significant," Mr. Quy said.

No specific answer as to why the family was convertedMore than 13,000 square meters of production forest land, perennial crop land, and aquaculture land were converted to residential land by many decisions signed by the government in one day, but Mr. Quy affirmed: "The conversion is in accordance with regulations."

The head of the Yen Bai Department of Natural Resources said that the conversion procedure took a long time and had been approved by the competent authority. "If what I said is not true, I will resign," Mr. Quy told VnExpress and hoped that the inspection agency would come to clarify the matter.

On June 29, the People's Committee of Yen Bai province affirmed its commitment to strictly comply with all requests of the inspection team according to the approved plan and inspection laws.
