Meeting on work to protect and maintain security and order on the Vietnam - Laos border

(Baonghean.vn) - On November 15, in Vinh City, the Border Guard Command of Nghe An Province held a conference to discuss border management and protection, maintain security and order, and signed a plan to coordinate in preventing illegal migration with the Military Commands of Hua Phan, Xieng Khouang, and Bolikhamxay provinces (Lao PDR).

Nghe An has a 419 km long national land border, adjacent to the three provinces of Hua Phan, Xieng Khouang and Bolikhamxay of the Lao PDR. In 2016, units under the Nghe An Border Guard Command regularly coordinated with the Police Station 317 of the Border Guard Company (Lao PDR) and local authorities on both sides of the border to organize bilateral patrols to protect the border, thereby detecting and handling 73 cases/152 subjects violating border regulations.

During the process of checking and controlling immigration, 5 cases/8 subjects violating immigration regulations were discovered, prevented and handled. Through information exchange and situation analysis, the Nghe An Border Guard Crime Prevention Force in coordination with Lao authorities successfully fought 10 major drug cases, seizing 64 cakes + 43.4g of Heroin; 35,568 synthetic drug pills; 230g of crystal meth; 2.9kg of opium; 1 flintlock gun; 4 cars and some other related evidence, fighting 1 human trafficking case, arresting 2 subjects and rescuing 5 victims.

The heads of the delegations exchanged minutes of signing a plan to coordinate in preventing illegal immigration on both sides of the border.

Up to now, on the Nghe An border adjacent to 3 provinces of the neighboring country, there are 18 pairs of twin villages - villages of residents on both sides of the border, 7 Border Guard Stations signed with 7 Police and Border Guard units of the neighboring country (Laos), bringing practical results, contributing to strengthening solidarity between the people on both sides of the border, building a peaceful border, special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

Speaking at the conference, comrade Le Xuan Dai highly appreciated the achievements in border management and protection of the Nghe An Border Guard force and the Military Commands of the three provinces of Xieng Khouang, Hua Phan, and Bo Ly Kham Xay in the past time; at the same time, he hoped that in the coming time, the two sides would continue to strengthen information exchange, closely coordinate in related activities, maintain political security, social order and safety in the border areas on both sides, contributing to building a peaceful and friendly border, especially between Nghe An and the provinces of Xieng Khouang, Hua Phan, and Bo Ly Kham Xay in particular and Vietnam and Laos in general.

The conference proposed the direction of activities between Nghe An Border Guard and the Military Commands of the three provinces of Xieng Khouang, Hua Phan, and Bo Ly Kham Xay in the coming time, focusing on: coordinating the fight against and preventing illegal migration; strengthening coordination in information exchange, bilateral patrols to protect the border, border gates, and fight against crimes; promoting propaganda and education on the awareness of compliance with legal documents on borders for officials and people in border areas...
