Certificates of merit issued by Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School to students with high achievements in the 2005-2016 school year were found to contain many errors.

On the afternoon of June 5, Ms. Nguyen Van Anh, Deputy Head of the Department of Education of Ha Long City (Quang Ninh) said that after receiving the feedback, the Department checked the certificates of merit issued to students by Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School and discovered some errors. "We have requested to withdraw all certificates of merit issued to students and reissue standard certificates to them," Ms. Anh said.

Previously, on social networks, a photo was shared of a bilingual English-Vietnamese certificate of merit from Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School (Hong Ha Ward, Ha Long City), awarded to students with high academic achievements in the 2015-2016 school year. However, this certificate does not have the National Emblem, the English information is not standard, many words are translated using Google Translate. For example, the word "tang" is translated as Donate instead of Award, Certify as usual. Or the phrase "Dat danh hoc sinh cao" is translated as "Won the title of Excellent Students".

Explaining this, Ms. Dam Thi Thanh Tam, Principal of Tran Quoc Toan Secondary School, said that the printing unit had previously sent a sample copy and it had been edited by the school, but when it was reprinted, it was an unedited version.

According to Ms. Tam, this is the first year the school has implemented an international cooperation program, in association with a high school in Greece, so it issued a bilingual certificate. After discovering the error, the school sent a text message to withdraw the certificate, apologized to the parents and students, and reissued the standard certificate to the students.
