Keep the Ky Son forests green
(Baonghean) - Located in a remote district in the far west of Nghe An, operating in difficult conditions, but for many years, the Ky Son Protective Forest Management Board has done a good job of protecting the forest.
In 2016, the Ky Son Protective Forest Management Board regularly patrolled and controlled the entire area under its management, focusing on hotspots at risk of illegal exploitation. They discovered and recorded the confiscation of 10.2 m3 of yellow heartwood and doi wood in Na Ngoi commune. On the border patrol route, markers L10-L11, they discovered and recorded the confiscation of 5.464 m3 of sa mu, handed it over to the Forest Protection Department, and filed a case for handling according to legal regulations.

Since the beginning of 2016, to limit forest fires in the area, the unit has developed a forest fire prevention and fighting plan according to regulations, which has been appraised by the Forest Protection Department and approved by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development as a basis for the unit to implement. Training on forest fire prevention and fighting and safe swidden production has been deployed for 20/20 communes in the district with over 1,400 participants. As of the reporting time, the unit has completed forest fire prevention and fighting training in the entire district.
Mr. Cao Van Quynh - Head of Ky Son Protective Forest Management Board said: To effectively carry out forest protection work, the Management Board has promoted propaganda and dissemination of legal knowledge so that people can understand and voluntarily comply. In 2016, Ky Son Protective Forest Management Board deployed propaganda and dissemination of legal education on forest management and protection, held meetings with 197 villages/20 communes in the area, with over 20,630 people participating.

To effectively carry out forest protection work, it is recommended that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development promptly review and adjust the planning of 3 types of forests and fixed rotational swidden areas in the district in a more specific and reasonable manner.
