"The government is considering all necessary steps to ease tensions on the peninsula while maintaining peace based on Seoul's solid alliance with Washington and cooperation with its partners," Yonhap quoted South Korean Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung as saying.

"At the same time, South Korea, the key party involved in issues on the peninsula, will leave the door open for dialogue with North Korea and make efforts to fundamentally resolve tensions," Chun added.

The above statements were made in the context of the US and North Korea recently continuously issuing strong warnings in response to each other.

On August 9, US President Donald Trump warned that the US is ready to unleash "fire and fury" on North Korea if Pyongyang continues to make threats.

In response, North Korea announced that it was studying a plan to launch missiles at the US Pacific island of Guam. The country's military will complete the plan and present it to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un by mid-August.

The White House boss then advised North Korea to "fear" the consequences if it attacked US territory. Mr. Trump also declared that military measures against North Korea were "locked and loaded."
