A series of people died tragically because of... gold

In recent years, in some provinces such as Quang Nam, Bac Kan,... there have been continuous incidents of gold mine collapses and suffocation in gold mines, causing many deaths. Quang Nam: 3 brothers died in gold mine
The latest incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on April 12, 2016, in the hill area behind the residential area in Dung village, a gas suffocation incident occurred, killing 4 people and injuring 1 person.
Immediately after receiving the news, the Chairman of the District People's Committee and the Secretary of the District Party Committee were present at the scene to direct the functional forces to organize the rescue. At around 11pm, all the victims were brought out of the tunnel.

The victims of the four gold miners who died of suffocation were identified as Cut Van Hien, Cut Van Son and Cut Van Nam (brothers, from Bao Thang commune, Ky Son district, Nghe An) and the remaining person was Nguyen Kim Vui (residing in Thanh My town, Nam Giang district). Cut Van Dung was the injured person who is being treated at the hospital.
After the incident, the Nam Giang District People's Committee decided to support each victim's family with 5 million VND. At the same time, the District People's Committee agreed to support the entire cost of transportation for the 3 deceased victims from Nghe An to their hometown for burial on April 13, 2016.
Gold mine collapses, 2 young men die
Previously, at around 8:00 a.m. on March 10, 2015, a group of about 6 people entered Ban Nin field, Thuan Mang commune, to illegally mine gold. During the mining process, due to weak ground, a gold mine collapsed, burying two young men, Dang Van Hoa (born in 1994) and Ban Van Lam (born in 1993, Dao ethnic group, both residing in Na Chua village, Thuan Mang commune, Ngan Son district, Bac Kan province.
People present at the scene quickly coordinated with the local people to dig the ground and rescue the victims. However, it took about 5 minutes to get the two young men out of the tunnel. When they were brought out, one young man died on the spot, and the other was seriously injured and died later while being taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Gold mine collapses in Quang Nam, two people buried
Nearly 2 months after the Ban Nin incident, at noon on January 1, 2015, the Tam Lanh commune authorities (Phu Ninh, Quang Nam) received a report that a gold mine in Kem mountain, Bong Mieu village, had collapsed, burying two people, Cao Minh Tam (35 years old) and Nguyen Van Minh (43 years old, both living in Tam Lanh commune).
By the afternoon of the same day, the rescue team had found Mr. Tam’s body and were actively searching for Mr. Minh. The collapsed area was several hundred meters below the tunnel entrance, making the search difficult.
According to Mr. Bui Quang Minh, Chairman of Tam Lanh Commune People's Committee, the two people entered the tunnel to illegally mine gold and had an accident.

At about 9:00 p.m. on January 10, 2014, at an illegal gold mining area in Bai Cao, village 8, Phuoc Hiep commune, Phuoc Son district, Quang Nam, a gold mine suddenly collapsed, burying 3 people.

The victims were identified as Bui Van Hung (born 1985), Bui Van Thao (born 1989) and Bui Anh Tan (born 1944, all 3 residing in Kim Boi commune, Kim Boi district, Hoa Binh).
According to initial information, this illegal gold mining group had about 10 people, fortunately the remaining 7 people escaped in time when the gold mine collapsed.
Gold mine collapses, 2 people die on the spot
At around 4:00 p.m. on September 25, 2013, a group of gold miners were illegally digging at Khe Ri (An Diem 2 hydropower plant area, bordering Ba commune, Dong Giang district and Dai Lanh commune, Dai Loc district) when the gold mine suddenly collapsed.
As a result, two gold miners, Nguyen Ngoc Vu (born in 1986) and Nguyen Ngoc Trong (born in 1986, both residing in Ba commune, Dong Giang district) died on the spot; two other gold miners were injured and taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
